Any locksmiths about? Advice please.
|
We have had a warning with somebody trying to break into the family house.
I have been reading about upgrading the standard lock in upvc door. Apparently the standard euro cylinder can be broken into/snapped/bumped within about 30 seconds.
I am looking at changing the locks to ABS diamond rated locks that are anti-snap.
Any personal reviews or recommendations would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Watch your back doors too... They will find this an easier route.

Also, you can give the locksmith's number to a bird on a out and say "you'll need it love, 'cause I'm gonna smash your back doors in."
I'm 99.9% sure that it will NOT back fire.

Make your doors more secure (and look more secure) than the houses either side. Sorted.

Just leave your house in a right fucking state with papers etc all over the floor, so when the burglar turns up, he'll look through the window and think someones already beaten him to it.

Hi pool, I think all euro cylinder locks will break. The abs ones are designed to break, but keep the locking cam in place. They are the ones I have on my doors...

Leave your front door wide open at all times. That way, potential burglars will be convinced you're putting the rubbish out.

bumping this thread as I need locksmith advice.
Need to change a Yale eurocylinder in front door due to missing key, possibly removed by persons unknown from outside side of door. Doorbell rang on Sunday afternoon, nobody there when answered, key can't be found now....
Overall measurement of cylinder is 90mm.
53mm-37mm to centre of fixing hole.
Is this a standard size? Having trouble locating it on the net. Or is it specialist size supplied to door manufacturer only?
Can a locksmith get these 53-37 yale eurocylinders.
Cheers.

Get a 60/40 or a 55/45 whichever leaves you with 5mm or less protruding outside. The less outside means harder to break off without drilling.

Have you got UPVC door panels? They'll just knock those through anyway.

A lot of them charge a callout fee even if you book a few days in advance. I made one robbing bastard in Basildon change a lock back when he charged me £80 callout. But there are some decent ones.

Lowermarsh, there is a drop down measuring guide here 51mm x 36mm looks closest, it does not need to be exact mm, as long as flush or protruding slightly and the bolt lines up, or Yale brand, they are all universal.

Really, you only need a lock that your insurance company deems sufficiently strong, because presumably you also have window, made of easily breakable glass.
